A. REQUIREMENTS TO SELF-DIRECT

To be eligible to self-direct the investments in your individual account:

  1. You must have an aggregate balance in your individual account of at least $5,000; and

  2. You must complete and certify in writing that you have fulfilled an investment education course approved by the Trustees.

Currently, investment education courses are scheduled periodically by the Plan office and are led by a representative of Fidelity Investments, the administrator of the self-directed investment program. The Plan office will notify all participants when and where these courses are scheduled to occur. Notice of the classes will also be posted on the EISB.org web site. The investment education courses are structured to acquaint you with the investment funds that are available and a general description of investment objectives, diversification and risk/return characteristics associated with the various investment alternatives.

Education sessions are also meant to acquaint you with how to set up your self-directed investment instructions and to inform you of any transaction fees and/or expenses which may affect your account balance in connection with the purchase and sale of your interests in investment alternatives.

If you have retired and live an inconvenient distance from the Plan Office, or, if for any other reason, attending a Plan Office sponsored education session is difficult for you, please call the Plan Office to determine how you may qualify to meet the education requirement without physically attending a Plan Office sponsored program.

As the Trustees will have no fiduciary responsibility for any losses you may incur due to poor investment selection, you will not be allowed to self-direct investments in your individual account until you certify that you have completed an investment course approved by the Trustees.
